RUEDA de CASINO (SALSA)
Rueda is a particular type of round dancing of Salsa. It was developed in Cuba in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by one person, a caller. Many moves have hand signs to complement the calls; these are useful in noisy venues, where spoken calls might not be easily heard. Many moves involve the swapping of partners. The names of the moves are mostly in Spanish, some in English or Spanglish. Some names are known in slightly different versions. Although the names of most calls are presently the same across the board, the different towns in Cuba use their own calls. This is because the pioneers of Rueda de Casino wanted to keep others from participating in their Rueda. Many local variations of the calls can now be found. They can change from town-to-town or even from teacher-to-teacher. There are many different variations of moves in Rueda de Casino. The circle will either start from "al Medio" (normal closed hold with all the couples stepping in and out of the circle) or from Guapea (stepping forward on the inside foot and backward on the outside foot, tangent to the circle). This is definitely one of my favorite dances, and it will be one of yours too!!!
TANGO
Tango dance is essentially walking with a partner and the music. Dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a tango is extremely important to dancing tango. A good dancer is one who transmits a feeling of the music to the partner, leading them effectively throughout the dance. Also, dancers generally keep their feet close to the floor as they walk, the ankles and knees brushing as one leg passes the other. Argentine tango dancing relies heavily on improvisation; although certain patterns of movement have been codified by instructors over the years as a device to instruct dancers, there is no "basic step." One of the few constants across all Argentine tango dance styles is that the follower will usually be led to alternate feet. Another is that the follower rarely has his or her weight on both feet at the same time. Argentine tango is danced counterclockwise around the outside of the dance floor (the "line of dance") and dance "traffic" often segregates into a number of "lanes"; cutting across the middle of the floor is frowned upon. In general, the middle of the floor is where one finds people who are performing "showy" figures or patterns that take up more dance floor space. It is acceptable to stop briefly in the line of dance to perform stationary figures, as long as the other dancers are not unduly impeded. The school of thought about this is, if there is open space in front, there are likely people waiting behind. Although Argentine tango is considered one of the most difficult couples' dance, it is hands down one of the best dances of all times.
MILONGA
Milonga is open dance, which means the studio is open to you and your friends to practice any dance style you would like, brush up on technique, and have a fun time with others who share the love of dance.
MUSCLE FIRE
Looking for a weight-training class? How about total body conditioning? This class focuses on toning up that figure. A weight lifting class that utilizes functional exercise routines with a little “spice” of cardio intensity!
